    BRING THE EXPERIENCE TO LIFE

    THE ULTIMATE GUIDE

PREPARE YOUR HOTEL FOR LIFESTYLE PHOTOGRAPHY

If you would you like your hotel photos to look more alive, then the so-called lifestyle photography is what you are looking for. This kind of photography aims at capturing people in different situations that appear natural and real. It usually tells a story about guests and the experiences they have at the hotel. The goal is that of creating an emotional connection with the potential guests that are looking at the photos from home. This way they can picture themselves relaxing in that hotel spa, eating those dishes and enjoying that venue.

Models Casting & legal forms

First of all, we always recommend working with professional models. This is an added cost compared to using hotel staff as models but it will be totally worth it. Working with professional models that are used to posing and listening to the photographer’s directions will save a lot of time and energies. We suggest contacting a local agency for the models or arranging it through Hotel Creatives.

Models should represent the main demographic of the hotel, with a particular attention to the age range and to the different ethnicities. They should also look credible, not too beautiful or cliché, so that it comes easier for the guests to identify themselves with the subjects.

It is also important to make sure that all the models have signed the legal forms and the licences for the use of the photos before the photoshoot takes place.

Models’ Wardrobe, make-up & styling

When it comes to models styling, the best thing to do is to hire a professional stylist. The stylist could style the models on top of arranging the rooms to create a lifestyle feeling. The pro of hiring a stylist is that he/she can make sure that the images perfectly fit the brand values and that the models mirror the guests of the hotels.

For instance, models should represent the target of the hotel also when it comes to their wardrobe. Clothing should be similar to that of the target guests. For instance, for a hotel that hosts mainly businessmen/women, models should be wearing a smart suit. The same applies to the hairstyles and make-up. This one, in particular, should be very subtle.
Furthermore, it is better to avoid clothes with an immediately identifiable brand with a famous or big logo. The same applies to accessories, such as bags and luggage.

The stylist can also pick out outfits and hairstyles that they are not too trendy or fashionable. This way, it will be possible to use the photos for many years (ideally 5). Or, on the opposite side, the stylist could curate the model’s look for a seasonal photoshoot (Christmas promotion, Valentine’s day, …)

  • HAIR & MAKE-UP ARTIST

Hire a professional to take care of a timeless hairstyle and subtle make-up

  • STYLIST

Use a stylist to match both the scene, rooms and apparel with your brand and audience.

  • SPARE ROOM

Reserve a spare changing room for the clothes, stylist and models.

  • EQUIPMENT

A cloths rack and steamer will help the stylist to keep clothes wrinkle-free. Place tables and chairs for the models and make-up.

On set

On the day of the photoshoot, it would be better to hire a hair and make-up artist that can get the models ready for the different shots. For this purpose, a room should be blocked and equipped with clothes racks, tables and chairs for the styling. If you have a steamer, that should be placed in the room too.

The stylist should also be present on set to oversee the preparation of the models, to guide the hair and make-up artist and to make sure that everything fits the brand values.

Team members

The staff is the face of the hotel so their styling should be looked after too. Usually, for the staff scenes, real team members are used instead of models. This will help in making the photographs even more authentic and genuine.
Team members should wear their work uniform, making sure that it’s clean and wrinkle-free. They should also be well groomed, with subtle make-up.

Team members too should sign permission forms and licenses.
